As to be expect, even the dismal weather didn’t effect the performances of our track & field athletes at the State Meet this past weekend. While PRs may have been less than in previous competitions and meet and state records remained untouched, there was still many great efforts, many exciting head-to-head competitions and a fair share of dominance displayed by our elite stars.
For this week’s male recipient of the HOKA Athlete of the Week, we’d like to congratulate East Greenwich’s Nick Martin. The Avengers senior earned two individual titles at Saturday’s meet by sweeping the longest events on the oval. Martin first struck gold in the 1,500-meter where he was timed in a best of 3 minutes, 58.47 seconds. Just a few hours later, the EG standout returned to the top spot on the podium by taking the 3,000m. Martin led a half dozen runners under 8:50 with a winning 8:42.59.
